Caution: Scam Artist at Work

In the Hartford Courant, Matthew Kauffman tells a story of how the toyed with an internet scammer, keeping him dangling for two weeks. In the meantime, he contact persons whose identity had been stolen for use in the fraud, tracked down non-existent addresses, and so on.

The story is too complex to summarize easily, but the fraud itself involved promising a large check for a trivial task, then asking that some of it be wired to another address. Ultimately, the original check would bounce, leaving a big hole in the victim's checking account. If you want a tale of trolling a troll, give it a look.

reminds me of a time when I was in New Genny, when a friend of mine got an EMail from who knows who, calming they could be an heir to an estate and loads of millions of dollars, just send photo ID of passport and birth certificate to verify. just to be sure, I'll get back to you on that as soon as I get your information.
Scam? ... lol
