Can't get started to install - Need Direction

I have an Hp with Intel and Windows. Bought without any disks. Last week I turned on and a windows shutdown message came on ( we apologize for the inconvenience, etc.). No matter how I try to boot (safe mode, last config etc.) it shows the windows screen then a blue screen for just a second - not long enough to read it-and reverts back to the shutdown message.

I tried creating a boot disk from another computer, but when I tried to use it..invalid boot.ini file then a message my hal.dll file needed to be reinstalled.

I created six disks in order to get to the recovery console, I get there, but not sure I can do anything without disks. When I do a dir c:\ it responds: problem with dir enumeration.

I have decided to install Fedora Core 4. I've downloaded the 4 CDs + rescue. Hoped I could install just by placing CD in drive. Computer still tried to boot from c:\. Tried Using the recovery console to copy CD to c:\ got message bad_pool_header.

I'd just like to wipe the system clean and start over with Fedora. Not sure where to start.

Is anyone willing to help?

It sounds like either you didn't burn the boot ISO correctly (burn image) or your BIOS settings need to be changed so the machine will boot from the cdrom.

When burning the disks, make sure you select "burn image", "burn ISO image" or whatever it says depending on the software used. The word "image" is usually the give away for burning an ISO.

As for chaning the bios settings, how to access the settings just depends on your system. It usually involves pressing "esc", F1, F10, or some other key while the system is first booting up. You may have to experiment a bit to find the correct key to press during boot. Windows is irrelevant with regard to your bios settings.

Try correctly buring the disks and booting from them first before attempting to adjust the bios settings. Could be it'll boot fine once they are correctly burned.
