caldera, SCO, SCo group?

Doesn't it strike you that SCO cinda has a every confusing past. First you had SCO. Then caldera bought SCO. Then caldera changed it's name to SCO group. But you also had something called Santo Cruz operations. I'm confused. What's the deal?

Click here for a timeline of the company.

Caldera was the name they adopted when they tried to offer Linux to the commiunity.

Sorry, Xavier, but I'm afraid you've got your facts a little muddled there... Caldera was the Linux distributor that bought SCO out. Before that, as stated in the website you linked, SCO had dabbled a little in Linux services, but had not released their own version of Linux.

Fair do's. To be honest though, I think that at the rate they are going they will be nothing more than a footnote.

Agreed. They'r gonna be had for breakfast by IBM's lawyers. I think there'll be some investigation into M$'s involvement in this whole fiasco, what with them bunging $CO a few bucks to help them out. I reckon they can't give $CO any more cash without it looking suspect.

SCO = Santa Cruz Operations

Its just easier to say SCO rather than Santa Cruz Operations.

qanopus 08-25-2003 10:21 AM

No I don't thinks that's true. Not quite. I had the impression that there was SCO, and somthing different along the line called SCO group and the latter was what we understand as SCO.
But I could be mistaken.

Nah, when Caldera came along and took SCO over, they formed the SCO group, but it's still the same company.
