Bye

I was planning on leaving next year, but events have changed my mind, so I'm leaving now.

I'm sure most don't really care, and they'll say so below, perhaps, but I did want to leave a note, as others have.

Why ? For many reasons. Mostly because I feel the world is becoming so incredibly stupid and censored to any hint of intelligence.

I cannot know what the quote was intended to mean, but to me it means that I must be silent while the fools scream their heads off at me and everyone else. Well, I'm ok with that, because stupidity = doom. I will not enlighten you, I will simply let you go your natural path ... towards inevitable doom. You can't say I didn't try to change that.

Anyway, it was fun while it lasted. But, I remember in the old days of LQ, things were different, there was a different feel to the forum. It was much more fun and open. Now it's not that anymore. I can't put my finger on what has changed, but something has. Maybe the world has changed and LQ with it. Well, in that case I will go dormant for a while, and it is wise to do so. In the darkness to come any glimmer of light is to be extinguished, so I cover the light for a while and hope for better times in the far future.

Ah, well, here's a final glimmer of light before I go:

I got similarly angry a while back, and went offline.
Came back after a while.

We're all free to came and go. Be satisfied in your decision.

`Silent` doesn't mean `leave`.
IF you feel that someone is trying to stalk you, pick at
you, or pester you deliberately, the best thing to do IMO
is to realize their intent and remain silent.

You can consider this as a patience tester for you. It worked
at least for me. You do realize that if someone stalks and
pesters you, their main aim is to "make you respond" anyhow.

As they say the best way to annoy a troll is to ignore them.
Leaving because of "some" people isn't wise, IMO.

Well, you see, the quote may mean that one should DO what one know is right and one does not need to speak sometimes because what one does speaks for him or her.

And they will know you by your acts.

I'm a member of some other sites, not Linux related too, actually one that I visit the most is about art and man what you can see and read there........ I am and I was mad at so many people there, but you know what, I DID what I thought was right and moved on. Who will see will see, who will not will not. What is important is for one to do what's right.

LQ? Well, many times I did what I thought was right but feedback sometimes wasn't right. What did I do? I moved on, but you know what, I didn't quit, because no one will make me stop doing what I think is right. Actually, one that stops doing what's right, no matter what the reason is, is more than a loser.

So, here's a song for ya, by my favorite band - Metallica; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj75Arhq5ho

It's been lovely to chat with ya here so many times, even though we didn't agree so many times!

Take care!

So you actually were serious: ;)

I've actually felt the exact opposite. I left around 2006, and when I returned a few years later the posters had IMHO a much better attitude.

Thanks for that. The final glimmer of light, I mean, illuminating the incredibly stupid, intelligence censoring forum in which we reside. I can't help but think you're being a little irrational, as I see LQ as being one of the better places on the internet, especially when it comes to solving problems relating to our dear OS. Well, if we've offended you so much, feel free to leave. I'm not saying that LQ is free of insensitivity, but it's a fairly good community, especially for the internet.

Thanks for the Wikipedia articles about Eagles.

I think highly of you and hope to see you back some day.

The world is a big place and to survive one needs a thick skin.

I have enjoyed our little conversations.

My philosophy has always been "Lead, follow, or get the hell out of my way".

I Will miss reading your posts and the ruffled feathers responses to your posts.

I'll catch ya later on the road maybe H_TeXMeX_H.

This forum will lose a valuable resource when you go.

Happy Trails, Rok

This is indeed a pity but

I care, but your threat made it impossible to stay without losing face.

This censorship thing it a double edged sword. People cannot demand freedom of speech and then demand that someone gets banned for expressing an opinion no matter how personally offensive that opinion is to them.

You tried but you kept on about things that you would not offer proof and could not prove and kept telling us it was not up to you to give us the information. If you have the information share it (this is after all the open source philosophy).

The rest of your post is depressing. The light has not gone out and there are many good people in this world who try to make a difference. You are not, and never will be, the only person who cares. Just because people disagree with you does not mean they are less caring and less intelligent than you.

Yeah, I was here back in 2006 and it was fun. Now, things have slooowww down here at LQ which is why I left in 2011 for awhile. Maybe the fun will pick up in the future.

I loved the linux vs windows wars which was entertainment for me but it has died down over the past year.

frankbell 04-21-2012 10:41 PM

Best wishes and thanks for all the bytes.

Catch you on the flip.

brianL 04-22-2012 03:07 AM

I hope you have second thoughts about leaving, since I remember I got some support from you that time I was banned from LQ. If you disagree with another member - so what? The human race would be very boring if we all had the same opinions and beliefs. I'm not altogether happy with the "censorship", political correctness, "netiquette", on these forums - but I can bite my tongue and comply. Think before you act.

sycamorex 04-22-2012 03:56 AM

I hope H_TeXMeX_H changes his mind as he was/is a valuable member of LQ. Over the years I've received a lot of quality help from him. I may not always agree with his views on life but that's not what it is all about. I think one must remember that this site is primarily devoted to linux and technical staff and it might not be the best place for enlightening the masses.

allend 04-22-2012 08:40 AM

In my time at LQ there are a small number of nicks that I have come to recognise and will click on their posts simply because they are generally insightful, technically solid or offer a logically argued viewpoint. The nick H_TeXMex_H is among those. (As is brianL, necessary reading for anybody with a GSOH)
I perceive your disillusionment as being partly due to your time at LQ, where new posts can come to be seen as "same old .., same old ..". As Linux matures, I have a sense of the tentacles of corporate thinking wrapping around. Linux is becoming more of a commodity and less of a new experiment. More users seem to have a sense of entitlement that they can simply ask a question and get an instantaneous answer. There seems to be less of a desire to do the work of searching for an answer or applying knowledge supplied to that user's particular situation. Perhaps that is the logical outcome of the work in the FOSS movement. As it strives to make things easier, faster and more transparent to the user, it also creates an expectation in the user that no other result is acceptable.
May the phoenix arise!

My sentiments exactly.
