Buyers Beware

SuSE 9.3 for $4.95?

Buyers beware...

I'm looking for anybody who has bought any Linux distro from http://www.pctech101.com.

Are they legit?

1) They do not respond to their email questions@pctech101.com.

2) They post no feedback on their site.

3) They are certainly pirating distributions. Why would I order from SuSE, for $100, or Redhat for $189, when I can get a legal copy from them for pennies on the dollar?

4) They may be spoofing the paypal site.

Yes, the url is in the cgi-bin at https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr/ which looks ok. That's the point! Only problem is that I can connect to the paypal site myself at www.paypal.com. I don't need any help from them.

What does this have to do with LQ?

They list you as a "sponsor".

Has LQ verified this site?

Has anyone at LQ given their paypay password to this cgi script?

If you have, say so. Otherwise, remove their link from your site.

Please do not close this thread. Let's see some feedback.

Then I'll place my order too.

you know that you can download suse 9.3 for free? it simply requires you to perform a net-install. also suse allows you to install suse as many times as you like and distrubute the cds/dvds freely, basically you pay $100 for infinite licenses to use suse. So they pass $5 of the $100 onto you and probably give you burnt cds.

im not so sure about the other complaints.

im not sure about paypal, but many websites don't quickly respond to emails. how long did you wait?

With all due respect Gay Robot, but I think you are wrong.

According to distrowatch.com there are no free 9.3 net installs ... yet.

There are plenty of good linux distro download available via bittorrent though. Try www.torrentreactor.net.

This thread is closed. The PCTech101 ads are most likely part of the Google ads - eremy has no control over what is shown on these ads.

If you are unhappy with them contact your local Trading Standards office or whatever your local variant is. You could also contact the store themselves and ask them the relevant questions. LQ is not the place for this - there are a number of retail oriented sites, I'd say this question is better suited there.
