building a new server
So I finally decided to breakdown and buy the parts for a new server. I do a lot of web developement and host a web/mail/database server from home, so i figured I'd treat myself. My current server is plenty fast, but my desktop has decided to take a dump. With the purchase of a new server, I can move my current server over to be my desktop, then scrap the desktop.
So finally, here's what I decided to buy: 3GHz P4 630 w/ 2MB L2 Cache - Only $182, I couldn't resist Intel 945P Mobo w/ SATA Raid and DDR2 667 support 1GB DDR2 667 2 250GB WD HDD's w/ 16MB cache Antect Sonata II Case w/ 450watt power supply Geforce MX4000 PCI video card w/ 64MB DDR - Oh Yeah!!! nVidia seems to have better Linux support Black Samsung Floppy Drive - the floppy drive is still alive! Black Lite On DVD Drive That's it. I decided to go Intel because we use all Intel servers here at work and they seem to work pretty well. This will be by far the fastest computer i've ever owned. I just hope the onboard intel raid controller works well with my OS. I should have everything next Tuesday. I'll post my thoughts once I have everything setup and configured. |
What software are you going to use?

CentOS 4.2, I've had good luck with CentOS in the past.
