I'm holding out for the new version of Mosaic. :D

I might try that on my BSD box but on this little windows laptop, I avoid that country domain like the plague.

Yes, why? That is where CERN is located.
Interestingly, CERN invented the world wide web in 1989.

Oh! Just looked. That's what the posted link is about.

I found it interesting that then, they were at cern.ch Now, they have their own TLD: .cern

I guess it pays to be first :)

sevendogsbsd 02-27-2019 02:48 PM

.ch is Switzerland? Oops, was thinking .cn, ha!

Thanks for your post keefaz.

It doesn't seem all that long ago that the "World Wide Web" come about, but yet so much has changed since the 90's. And the world, particularly the Internet is so very different now. It's amazing how much has changed since then, it really is...

sevendogsbsd 02-28-2019 06:49 AM

This reminded me: watch the documentary "Lo and Behold" by Werner Herzog on Netflix. It's about the Internet - well done and very interesting.

Yes, I thought it was interesting to see the first web browser in action, I was surprised by the words too, like to open a new URL, in those days you did:

"Open from full document reference"

Works fine for Gopher sites (2018-12-20), not much else. :)

rtmistler 03-01-2019 10:34 AM

Cure! I kind of do, and don't remember that stuff.

It does serve to remind that we've come a looong way! :)
