Asimov's stories were my favorites. The robot collection might well be worth reading again in these times.
The Foundation trilogy might well be worth another read, too.

I liked several of the big name sci fi authors - Clarke, Asimov, Heinlein and a bunch of others, including some of the more fantasy oriented ones (Norton, McCaffery, etc). Not to detract from his significance as an author but Heinlein actually was not near the top of my favorite authors list. Can't really disparage the guy that gave us "grok".

It's just killing me that so many of them are dead now! I guess that's escapism at its most extreme.

I would not say they are in the same class as Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe or Dashiell Hammet's Continental Op novels, which I would consider classics of their genre, but I've become quite a fan of Alison Golden's cozy mysteries, particularly the Inspector David Graham novels. They are eminently re-readable.

Full Disclosure: I am a mystery buff. Not suspense. Mystery.

Yes, they were good. But I wonder how he planned to end it. Presumably not the way it ended on TV. Did he ever get around to writing the last book?

Apparently he's still working on the sixth book, The Winds of Winter. It's not completed.

Gaza Writes Back: Short Stories from Young Writers in Gaza, Palestine
- Refaat Alareer, Editor, 2014 Just World Books

From the back cover:

Quote:
Gaza Writes Back is a compelling collection of short stories written in English by young writers from Gaza. Their experiences during and following Israel's 2008-9 offensive known as "Operation Cast Lead" deeply impacted their lives and their writing. These stories take us into the homes and hearts of moms, dads, students, children, and elders striving to live lives of dignity in one of the world's most embattled communities.
A favorite quote from the short story, L for Life by Hanan Habashi:

Quote:
"I had to be thankful for my faith, for you have to make that leap of faith if you ever want to heal. Years may be the length of one's life, but faith is, undoubtedly, the width."
Recommended reading for humans of any faith, or no faith.
