BMW new 7 series to use Winblowz CE

I Found this at http://bonehead.oddballs.com/

News Item: Microsoft announces that BMW’s new 7-series sedan will use Windows CE software to run its in-dash control computer. Other automakers will follow suit.

The Top 15 Features of a Windows Car

1. Damage from frequent crashes greatly limited by agonizingly slow speeds.
2. MS-AAA mysteriously knows where you are and what you ran into before you even call.
3. Lets you e-mail viruses to jerks who cut you off in traffic.
4. Sure, you *own* the car -- but your nerdy 17-year-old nephew is the only one who can figure out how to drive it.
5. Engine trouble? Just execute a Ctrl+Alt+Honk and the car repairs itself.
6. "Crowby," the annoying, animated crowbar, keeps changing the radio station.
7. It doesn't matter how good it is, those techno-snobs with the free LINUX cars always look down on you.
8. It's a royal pain to try to pull into a non-Microsoft gas station.
9. Now only takes THREE MINUTES to start.
10. Whenever you leave your driveway, the little paperclip guy jumps out of the glove box and says, "It looks like you're going to work! Can I help?"
11. You have to reinstall the entire engine once a month.
12. After putting it in park, it shakes and rattles for a couple minutes before you finally get the signal that it's safe to turn off the engine.
13. Despite reassurances of improved security from Microsoft, hackers can easily gain entry by simply using the door handles.
14. You can't lend it to someone else; they have to purchase their own.
15. You have to pull to the side of the road, turn off and restart the engine whenever you change CD's.

Now that Sound Like Micro$hit

16. In a case of trouble MS included comprehensive troubleshooting guide, but it won't work anyway, so you'll need to push the car to the nearest MS certified service center, which might be miles and miles away if you are not within Redmond area.

17. You can only make three changes to the cars hardware before having to phone up microsoft for the code to get into your car because it locked you out.

CERT Advisory CA-2005-01 Driving vuln BMW 7-series

CERT Advisory CA-2005-01 Driving vulnerability in Microsoft CE for BMW's new 7-series sedan.

Original release date: February 21, 1997
Last revised: March 5, 2005
Source: CERT/CC/Mockerys0ft

Cars Affected
BMW new 7-series sedan

Overview
Upgrading the car with SP1 and SP2 leaves the car vulnerable to driving.

Description
A vulnerability exists in SP1 and SP2 in that after the upgrade the car can be actually driven.
The extent of the vulnerability will not be fully disclosed because Mockerys0ft is against full disclosure, but the following vulnerabilities have been pinpointed:
- an off-by-one attack in open_right_door(),
- a D0S exists in handling open_right_door(), close_right_door() so that if the operator uses both within a 5 min. period from each other steer_right() would lock up, leaving the car vulnerable to steer_left(),
- unauthorized access tru the sunroof is possible using the exploit as described in unSpawn's "knife attack",
SP1 includes the following fixes: steering wheel-2.0 (steer right fix), paint job (only on the pan-americana, elsewhere waterproof not tested), super-wide Eagle tires and headlights that won't explode each time you adjust your seat.
SP2 includes the following fixes: upgraded ashtray-0.9b security options, passenger seats (finally), spare tires (x4), ActiveC car controls.

Solution
Please be aware Mockerys0ft doesn't test the car on actual driving characteristics and operability. All warranties void if driven. No refund possible if bought. No fix available for the next 10 years. Consult your local dealer who will contact us and whom we will then tell there's no fix, who will then contact you telling there's no fix and will slap on a consulting fee.

Note
Please note CERT/CC has not actually tested these vulnerabilities for real because we value our lifes too much to test crap like this.

Oh.. my... god! I absolutely hate that paperclip! I wish I could just reach in the screen and pry it into thin wire!

18. No longer is there a need for traffic cops... Windows CE software now features a built-in violation scanner. Anytime an illegal manuver is done, the software will automatially inform the authorites and a ticket will be issued to you and printed right from the dash! Because of better security and accuracy, fighting the ticket will not be allowed, easinig up the courts!

Windows.... because invading your privacy and taking your wallet is our primary goals!
