Bizarre Firefox behaviour

So, Im cruising around looking at some forums and all of a sudden firefox quits. Open it back up and Ive got 5 blank firefox pages loaded but they all have " internet explorer " in the title bar, So I clear the cache and cookies and everything and reboot and I think everything is fine but then I click on a link to search for somthing in google, I am redirected to Microsoft.com from clicking on a link that was supposed to go to a search for /tmp.xo-lock. WTF could be causing this strange behaviour? It only does it as this user not any others and they are separate firefox installs so that s probably why, maybe I should delete this user and start over.

Why not un-install firefox for this user and try again. Then if you are still having problems, then remove the user? I have never had this problem, sounds weird though.

Is this happening in Linux?!

Hmm.... strange. Probably a browser hijack attempt. I've never seen such a thing in Linux, though. In Windows, installing AdAware and scanning seems to help cut out such problems.

If you are running in Linux, I suggest you install a personal firewall. I suggest Firestarter as the easiest to install and set up. Very similar to ZoneAlarm. About AntiVirus, I'm not sure. Is there any Linux virus scanner that checks for "Linux" viruses. I'm using ClamAV.

Yes, its in Linux and I use guarddog for iptables. A browser hijack is exactly what I thought to especially after seeing Internet explorer in the firefox title bar.

Has anyone else had problems with firefox just randomly exiting after clicking a link? I was typing out a rather long email, opened up a tab to browse to an internet radio station, click the link to find the right station, and firefox just quits. it is extremely annoying, because I just lost about a page of writing, that I had just spell-checked and proofread. ARGGHH.

With all respect BajaNick, I think it's time for you to try another browser. Firefox is not your thing :)

But then again, if you move to Opera, weekends at LQ.org would not be the same without you posting about Firefox :)

LOL, Maybe Ill switch to IE for Linux :p

ghehe. Oh my, thanks for being cool. I'm always afraid of making jokes, some peoples take it too seriously.

Well, you might like Opera, if you've not tried already. It's quite popular and at least for me, runs faster then firefox. I just don't use it because it just does not feel "home" for me, if you know what I mean ;)

Either way, good luck!

P.S: if you type about:config at Firefox, you can change a lot of configuration stuff. Maybe something may help you or got changed by accident in a spooky way :D
