BitTorrent
can anyone tell me what is bitTorrent,
I saw it on slackware site they have written that you can download slackware from bittorrent i don't know what it is, it sounds like p2p but????? |
ya, p2p.
you need a bittorent client (azureus) and then you download a .torrent file from a site and open it in the client and then it downloads it and shares it. |
You had better hurry, cause torrent sites are being closed by authorities

With any luck, there will someday be an alternative to a centralized tracker, so site closures won't make it so much harder to find things. |
Thanks.
Just for info. Almost all German mirrors have full iso's uploaded. No need for Bittorrent |
My understanding is that the central idea behind bittorrent is to shift the traffic load from (expensive?) servers to the (unused) upload bandwidth of the users who want the file (= cheaper). So using bittorrent is encouraged.
You are probably allready aware of this, but just to be sure: you need at least the bittorrent client available from The Official BitTorrent Home Page This is probably the only download you'll never be able to use BitTorrent for :) |

But yeah, the great thing about BT is that the more people who are downloading something, the faster it goes, unlike normal websites or FTP sites, where more downloads = slowness and unavailability. Everything should be distributed over BitTorrent! |
