Best computing, tech-related audiobooks and podcasts ?
I know you cant learn programming from audibooks but audiobooks like "Computer science - an overview", "history of computers, internet", "Networking basics", "Latest technologies - podcast", "This Week in Tech", etc could be useful.
I listen to a lot of audio throughout the day (commuting, gym, etc), and I just want to be as productive as possible.
Tried searching audible.com, amazon, etc to no avail.
Do any of you have any recommendations?
edit - I even tried a pdf-to-audio converter to convert the wealth of knowledge in ebooks to audio but I am not a big fan of "robotic" voice. I like a human narrator.
HackerPublicRadio is a rather eclectic place with a wide range of topics, but also has in-depth series on various geeky topics: http://hackerpublicradio.org/series.php. Right now, Dann from TLLTS is doing one on the command line; he's also created a website for the series. http://www.linuxintheshell.org/
I also listen to KPO and TLLTS and almost everything from HPR.
For general tech news, I like Geek News Central. I've listened to it for years; Todd is a level-headed guy who's not afraid to express an opinion. He does have sponsors and generally opens with about 10 minutes of personal items about his family and his activities and a couple of commercials. From a software standpoint, it tends to be Windows-oriented, but hardly Windows-exclusive--he talks about hardware, software, gadgets, net neutrality, copyrights, and occasionally about NASA--whatever geeky strikes his fancy.
Geekazine is worth a look. I used to help Jeffrey with his blog--his sense of humor is lots more off-the-wall than Todd's.
They're more, but that's a nice list to get anyone started.
The podcasts I listen to are all pretty mainstream. I would recommend security now on twit (twit.tv/sn). Most of the other podcasts on twit are basically about consumer electronics. The sn back catalogue has some great epodes on how tcp/ip works, computers, and other very technical stuff.
There are of course programming specific podcasts, but none that I can think of at the top of my head to suggest.
