i think it is because windows gets too much commercial software and users always search for the free version so they get the bad crap like viruses...

im not a fanatic about linux ... why should i give it to some stupid guy and help him through if he doesnt want to learn anything new ..

oh well it's better for me because if linux doesn't have that many users it doesn't have that many viruses. . .

lol .. even though i wanted to convince my mom to use linux .. and when vista had some problems with the ntfs file system i had to give her linux ..
and guess what she liked and told me :
1. oh it boots so fast
2. it is so responsive
3.it has a spell checker.

after this , i made vista to work again and she was like '' where is the spell checker .... ''

i know windows has spell checkers though ... but because of windows' booting speed i could not use linux because when my mom would like to use the laptop was like ... put my windowwwws ... and then she was like ... get this linux thing off the computer ... it slows windows down !!!

What? No...just no..

Linux doesn't have viruses because when an exploit is found, it's fixed the next day. Microsoft on the other hand may take weeks. And yea, people ship viruses with cracks and hacks for commercial software. Serves you right for pirating. And Linux doesn't slow Windows down, Windows is slow because it is bloated. And Chrome and Firefox have a spell checker built into it, but IE doesn't. So, that solves that problem. And I've actually seen only a small difference from cold boot to login screen when it's Windows vs. Linux on this laptop. And yes, Windows gets to the login screen a tad bit faster. To get to the desktop though, Linux beats it by almost 30 seconds.

*sigh* I suppose it might be worth explaining in that case that just because two OSes can share the same hard disk doesn't mean they can run concurrently on the same computer.

lol yeah i know it seems fast until login screen and then seems like staying forever on that : "please wait.. " screen

I know they got spell checkers , but I'm romanian and i got the version in romanian of google chrome so there's the problem..

Also it might be because it was an old version of google chrome ... i think it was version 3 .. i think it didn't have spell checkers then ...

As of explaining my mom about the 2 OS's sharing the same HDD .. she doesn't really care .. but now anyways i use Linux full time so who cares ...

EDIT : so ubuntu got english spell checkers because i like my os to be in english .. when i installed chrome on my vista it inevitably installed romanian vers

Don't know if it is available in Chrome, but in my iceweasel I use the Quick Locale Switcher-Addon, this way I have spellchecking in different languages.

I don't like Linux.

I don't like Linux.

This includes any of the various flavors.

Other than the basic "Grandma" stuff (Internet, copying files, listening to music, etc.), why is it SOOOOO difficult to do anything in Linux?

I just don't like Linux.

I suspect that you are trying to use Linux but still think windoze. That will never work. This is why it is easier to teach someone who has never used a computer to use Linux than it is to teach someone who has years of experience with windoze.

Must change way of thinking. Much like stepping out of Grandma's automatic transmission V8 Chrysler Imperial into straight six-cylinder sport car with 6-speed on floor and manual overdrive. Must change way of doing things, but can do much more, go faster.

I was walkin' down the street, concentratin' on truckin' right....
I heard a dark voice beside of me, and I turned round in a state of fright.
I saw four faces, one mad, a moderator from the fora
They looked me up and down a bit, and turned to each other...
