A big argument for proprietary baSH* is that it makes stuff better by driving innovation? Just not true!

I edit my posts
I'm not paying for slackers (work with them I must(!)) and if you are proprietary that's what you appear to be; NO PUN!

Services,,, that's other thing$, worth it!

I was going to write a big long post showing how the more things change the more they stay the same. (IE 4 and Windows 10) But I found this quote from '99. It's like a prophecy or something.

Quote:
3/29/99
So Microsoft is reorganizing to focus more on consumer needs? More likely customers wallets. Microslop has spent so long focusing on the extraction of money from consumers that I find it hard to believe that they could change.

I always got a kick out of not being able to use two virus scanners at once, red flag. One thinks the other is a malware and me too.

My friend cried out loud and said, " I am using malwarebytes to remove malware and spyware. but WINDOWS 10 is still there!!!"

I told him "use linux to override that big spyware..."

Funnily enough I just received an email from a friend asking how to cope with UEFI because another friend, who doesn't have much experience using computers, wants to replace Windows 7 with Xubuntu because he doesn't like Windows.

So...you crush a company producing the most popular free browser for your OS because...why?

price of Windows 98, for example, is probative of monopoly power. One would expect a firm in a
competitive market to pay much closer attention to the prices charged by other firms in the market.
Another indication of monopoly power is the fact that Microsoft raised the price that it charged OEMs
for Windows 95, with trivial exceptions, to the same level as the price it charged for Windows 98 just
prior to releasing the newer product. In a competitive market, one would expect the price of an older
operating system to stay the same or decrease upon the release of a newer, more attractive version.
Microsoft, however, was only concerned with inducing OEMs to ship Windows 98 in favor of the older
version. It is unlikely that Microsoft would have imposed this price increase if it were genuinely
concerned that OEMs might shift their business to another vendor of operating systems or hasten the
development of viable alternatives to Windows.

Yeah...lowest price...got it. No that's not ruthless at all.

Here's what I think:

One never looks at ones self in a terrible light when reminiscing. The ego cannot tolerate that. No matter how evil or under handed a previous action may be.

So I don't expect Bill or Redmond to speak plainly on past company policies taken in court actions or take overs. Let alone business practices.
Just like I would not expect members here to show the hash marks left in the under wear of their lives.

One votes with their wallet. My failing weakness is that I have been a motorcycle fan boy since points and carburettors.
So when the world moved on PLC and module control for ignitions and fuel delivery.

I had to adapt or die. That is a Windows/Mac world, Not a Linux world.

All of My bikes are all EMP proof. My former customer motorcycles are not how ever. I also keep a EMP proof 63 ford F100. Added a Cushman Truckster to the list also.

Because. The thread title says "because shiny things are fun". I own a few shiny thing toys.

None of my toys need a Windows or Mac interface. But the same cannot be said for a lot of other folks toys.

Well, the quoted post is from 2010! And I am pretty sure it was sarcasm at the time...

(Besides, it was dead even when M$ pretended to support it!)

If you pay more it could be as stable as any but where's the fun in that?

I've still got a WIN98 SE box that I can fire up if I can find the

keyboard and mouse. It worked early THIS year.
Go retro!!
And the WIN 95 install disks and the upgrade ones to WIN 98. I saw them yesterday.

Everything else runs Debian
