It seems like they’re cooperating with Chocolatey. I would assume that there will be a review process in place.

Hey that's neat!

Now people can get their malware directly from M$ with even less hassle

Fdroid is open but not all of the apps it hosts, tho it let's you know what's what.

You can root a free os on a phone or a pc.

I guess we're all just tators either way...

"Package managers are obviously full of malware if a large company maintains their repositories", happy Red Hat, Canonical or whatever-distribution-you-prefer customers said...

I suggest that you'd better wait for what will happen with the Windows Package Manager. I will!

Don't let anybody fool you. Package managers aren't fool proof. Plus in Apple's case, theirs is designed to create the ultimate walled ecosystem to eliminate competition from third party developers.

Google's crap might be a little better but that's not saying much by any means! One platform all of Google. Including tracking any receipts that come into your gmail inbox. What a great package manager. You no longer need to hunt for the receipt when you want to return a package

Seriously though, if a package manager serves closed sourced apps...I don't care who runs it...Its only as trustworthy as the devs themselves.

I wonder if buying npm inspired the ms package manager.

Actually, Google's "App Store" is continually bombarded with fake apps so not sure theirs is any better. I trust Apple's much more of the 2, although I only have 2 or 3 third party apps on this MacBook and a few more on my iPhone. I could care less about the walled garden but indeed you do have to trust their devs because you have no choice if you live there.

In the windows world, Microsoft has trained users over the past few decades to just go out on the web and grab what you need, which is obviously dangerous. Good they are learning from us in terms of a singular place to get applications.

Why does this thread exist, especially on a Linux board? There is inevitably going to be bias, so it means absolutely nothing, and at the end of the day, you use what works for you.

Why not vim or nano. Why not gnome or kde? I could go on. The whole premise of the thread is completely pointless.

True. I supposed the thread is a sandbox for "flame windows" posts, but it is all over the map...

Yup I was waiting on this post From the dev view point Google wins easy. One time $25 fee vs a recurring $100 fee. But seriously, both stink...bad.

From a user view point google has a lot of junk but there's also reputable apps. If somebody is careless, no iOS will solve that.

For the most part apps need to ask permission before doing anything sensitive although underneath them Apple and Google do not.

Also iOS probably wouldn't run on my $15 phone But none the less I want to ditch A*****d asap. I HATE Google!!!

It's always up to the user*! Whether you compile it to be 1s n 0s, try and keep it mostly
Code:
text
or stick with the monopolie$; the end results, malware or not is on you!

I of course would define monopolies as malware right off the bat, killing* off the have nots is their agenda...

Leaving us to spread the virus of open source!?.
