Dollar signs don't annoyed me as I've use them back in 2004. I also have a strong antipathy of Micro$oft.

Funny, how LQ is now plagued with lots of windows users.

Wow...really? It's not the fact that Microsoft has lots of money, it's the fact that the PEOPLE know what they want. And unfortunately, that's Windows. If Dell started only selling computers with Ubuntu on them, Dell would no longer have business. People would buy it, look at it, and just say "This is different, I can't use it." Thus, they stick with Windows. It has been the standard of the home computer since the DOS days, and that's not going to change anytime soon.

And really, there's no need to be whining about Microsoft as there's nothing we can do. People use the operating system that Just Works for their needs. If they need more, they go to Linux and/or Mac. Frankly, if you don't need more than surfing the web and checking e-mail and maybe playing a few flash games, I'm not going to force you to change from Microsoft. If you want to create documents, you're going to use Word. Personally, OpenOffice just isn't ready to be my only Office app. It's a great Office Application, yet it lacks a lot of features that MS Office has that I NEED when I'm writing college papers. I will never escape Windows, yet I always use Linux more.

And why are we bashing Microsoft so much when the real cash whores are Apple? $2,985 for a mediocre laptop that can't do half the crap I can do in Windows. Not to mention that the HP laptop that's almost double the specs is about half that price? WTF Apple!?

That's that hardline anti-microsoft bit- the bug is that they're still in business... funny!

Dang, even Mark Shuttleworth doesn't agree with me. That is enough to really curb my zealotry.

Thats surprising, since I assumed the opposite and Mark Shuttleworth would suddenly find himself in your crosshairs, ah well go figure.

Just look at one of the last comments to the bug.

Oh, and you're right: I better go edit that post to remove the link to the bug.

Price/performance ratio is not the only thing that matters. Please consider other factors like design, aesthetics, professional applications availability and portability. Coincidentally, this is never mentioned when people bash the Mac.

I could probably see some argument for 'professional apps', then again all Adobe products are also available on the Windows side. The design/aesthetics argument however is just so superficial and has no real merit.

I don't care if I have an 'ugly beige' tower, in the end it is just a computer and it does what I need. I spend 99% of the time in front looking at the screen anyways, not the tower.
