Question BBM for Android and iPhone

To be frank I do not understand the fascination behind it. What can the BBM do that other apps can't? If there is a very good reason to get it I will gladly get it but I do not understand the fascination at the moment.

Well as it has a cult following among crackberry users it must have made sense to them to "open" the platform. Personally with the likes of whatsapp, Kik, etc. already in the mult-platform space they have missed the window to get out there.

Although I'm sure there are many Android/iOS users that will be happy to be able to talk to their BBM using friends that are too dumb to install anything else.
