I am forced to use Windows at work because &**^%$# Lotus Notes doesn't have a Linux client >:(

But I did set up my machine to dual-boot for when I want to get something done quick at the command line like resizing a directory of images

I reformatted Linux after a day trying. That's why I'd prefer someone actually telling me. The one time I came close, I got no video on restart. I can't even play the game with the penguin sliding down the hill.

MS free at home for a year and a half.

No-one's going to help you if you're not willing to try anything on your own.

I haven't booted windows since I got an external modem (in dec 04). I just love Linux, I just couldn't go back to windows. If I have to use windows (to fix my dad's comp, or at uni to see some lecture notes that can only be rendered in IE) it feels so restrictive, and I find it so ugly and I don't just mean the graphical interface.

cheers

Have you tried to run these applications under dosbox or dosemu? dosbox is pretty straightforward under SuSE, it takes less than 3 minutes to have it up and running and "installing" an application simply means to copy the files to a directory you mounted as your "c:\" drive (or whatever drive letter). You don't even need MS Dos, it comes with it's own.

BTW windows for games (only thing it's good for), everything else linux.

theYinYeti 04-07-2005 08:00 AM

No windows at home (3 PC) since 1999.

I *have* to use Windows at work - no option there. But my computer at home has been Windows-free for over a year, now.

But why Linux can not change it out?

What did I just say!? I DID try on my own. I apparently tried too hard on my own, as I had to reformat after making a mistake.
Why's it have to be such an issue to just post suggestions instead of pulling apart my words?

(I understand English is not your native language, so I will answer the question I *think* you are asking. :))

The place I work decreed years ago that Windows will be the only platform used. (An exception is made for some very intensive applications that run on Solaris 8 boxes - but they do not have any connections outside the building.) We can use only the sofware they provide, and cannot even download newer versions, let alone any other software. We have no access to our hard drives, or to the CDROM, or to the floppy drive, or to the USB ports, etc. There are days I am just glad to have internet access at all! We run Windows 2000 Pro, and will probably never go to XP. Linux doesn't have a chance here, for several years. (Although maybe with Solaris, we can nudge them in the right direction. ;))

Sorry, I mean replace :-\

It would be excellent, if such corporations used linux as major OS :-D
