My thoughts exactly.

Except that in my experience $5 watches don't last. I'd pay $25.

My cell phone has been my watch for years. Even flip phones have clocks.

It's just occurred to me that my current watch (one of those Timex Indiglo sports watches that were all the rage in the 90s) has lasted over twenty years. It serves me well and I see no reason to replace it.

Me too. I was at a job site once about eight or nine years ago trying to schedule a demo of some process for me to observe so I could write a training document about it. When someone said, "What time?" all three of us pulled out our phones . . . .

I do know one Linux user, one I respect highly, who has an Android watch of some type which he uses multiple times daily for Google searches, reading text messages (he's sysadmin and gets lots of texts), and so on.

I can't remember the last time I wore a watch.

No. Making people think they need such junk (which almost certainly spies on your every move) is a marketing strategy devised by a cackling Sergey Brin rubbing his hands. Humanity is doomed if the wearable Google telescreen catches on.

I learned a long time ago that "new" does not necessarily mean "improved."
