Are You A Fan Of Computer Wear?

I've seen on youtube and media press releases about google glass and smart watches from Google and Apple and some people go crazy for them.

I believe Apple has more of a success of computer wear over Google and samsung.

I personally don't see the appeal for them. For me, a smartphone is enough. I don't need a smartwatch to tell me I have a message or call on my smartphone

No. To be honest, people have no idea what to do with the tech they already have. Especially with already mentioned smartphones.

This was best summed up in a comment on an article on theregister last week. The article was about updates to the new operating system for Apple Watches, the comment:

Quote:
36 security patches. For a watch!

"Because you can" is in and of itself not a sufficient reason for doing something.

It wasn't when you were in high school and it isn't now.

(I was going to say something about "looking cool," but, frankly, most of this Computer Wear doesn't.)

I use a multi-tool and flashlight I wear on my belt every day at least once a day.

If the geek wear meets that kind of function/job requirement and is cheap enough/as durable.
I'd be stupid not to buy, wear, and use the tool.

So far none do.

They seem real gimmicky to me. Oooh, you can answer texts on it...just like you can on your phone. Yeah, no thanks.

Im not going to use a watch that you have to charge every day because its a watch with an entire operating system running in it. I can buy a watch that 'TELLS THE TIME' for 5$ and the battery will last 10 years. And best thing about it? My watch won't be hacked, nor will it ever spy on me, nor will it ever display an ad.

Its a watch.

That apple monstrosity is not a watch in any way. If it is, then its a simulacra. But as I see it - the apple iWatch is just a wrist-mini-computer.

If it came with a ruby laser that cuts through 2mm thick steel, plus a beer dispenser. I'd consider it. But I'd be a tired and sore SOB lugging around the battery backpack slung across my back every day.

Yet another silly gimmick to market and sell to the gullible. It's a small square smartphone thingie on a watch strap... not a watch, no more than a smartphone is a large strapless rectangular watch.

The positive thing here is that anyone who wears one of these is automatically a 'geek'. All you need is special designer eye wear and some narrow legged circulation stopping trousers and you're in. Recite all the iproducts in chronological from start to finish and talk about "the cloud" and they will be in awe...

I would like to test drive Google Glasses before I'd comment. It seems to me that often some tools can have multiple uses and it isn't until someone discovers "the killer app" tht the public can see what it can do for them.

I still have a relatively dumb phone thinking I would have no use for a web device with that tiny little screen. Then I witnessed my Son getting driving directions as well as playing ebooks, checking weather and traffic updates, and podcasts plugged into the car radio and handling bank transactions anywhere, anytime on-the-go that I started to see that I would like that mobility and flexibility. As soon as my contract runs out I will get a smartphone and I have months to choose one best suited for what I'd like to do. I suspect that one day something like Google glasses or a Dick Tracy watch might be useful, too.

Wow! Small sample but not yet any Yes votes

I just wasn't sure if the title implied goofy sunglasses and T-shirts or actual gadgetry.

I can't think of even one thing that I Like to wear or carry. My phone is in a pocket versus mounted on a belt clip or something and I take it out at every stopping point like my desk, home, or in the car. Clipping other stuff on me just isn't my preference.

At the moment I don't feel the need.
My watch is unnecessarily complex as it is solar (well light...) powered, sets itself by an a radio signal from an atomic clock every morning and will display its temperature, the air pressure and a compass bearing and will take a beating so extreme that I'd be more worried about my own survival if it happened. However, I wear it because the first two are absolutely the essence of what a watch is, the last means I can be clumsy and not care, and the others mean I can play and do things like realise a plane I am on is about to turn around before the rest of the passengers (wouldn't pressurise).
If I could add an email alert to my present watch I might be interested but hte Bluetooth model is a bit lacking, in my opinion.

I shall post again since this is another thought. Having just listened to a track by one of my favourite bands, Rammstein, I have to think it would be great to see even a half-baked google-translate style translation go before my eyes should I choose it -- and, of course, a live translate would be awesome for people like me who barely know one language. Since I'm likely to need some eyeglasses very soon I now wish I could get lyrics and translations sent to them.
