View Poll Results: Are You A Genuine Cable Cutter?
I've read and heard on how folks cut the cord and solely rely on the internet for entertainment such as netflix, huluplus, youtube, amazon prime and other internet sources.
I personally use some of the sources above but I still have my cable TV.
How about you? Do you still have cable TV and supplement your entertainment with internet services as well or are you a true cable cutter?
I definitely am. I see no reason for TV anymore cable or otherwise. The internet provides a far more diverse and interactive rather than one-way information system. I also prefer to buy DVDs of movies and shows that I want to view more than once. If I am only going to view them once then any method will do as long as ads are not mandatory ... oh I hate ads so much.
I still use cable but mostly the basic cable service and out of those hundreds of channels I only have five favorites. My internet entertainment is mostly from netflix, hulu ( basic ), youtube and my roku box.
Anyway, I appreciate the votes and replies. Thanks rokytnji and metaschima
I haven't had cable TV since AT&T finally put DSL into my neighborhood several years ago. I had basic cable only, because I had to have cable to get an internet connection. As soon as DSL became available, I ditched the cable. Ever since, AT&T has bombarded me with ads for their Universe all-in-one package, but I keep on refusing. I don't want, or need, cable TV. I get what I want through over-the-air broadcast from local stations and through the internet. The cable companies, including the phone companies who provide TV service, can go pound sand for all I care.
I dont watch tv cable or otherwise and have relied on the internet alone for entertainment since about 2005 or so. I have clear wireless internet and even since they were bought by sprint service continues to be ok, though every now and then i get tempted by a cable internet deal. Even if i got cable tho, i dont think i would want the tv or other service.
I've found that I only watch a few hours a month of paid media. It isn't worth the kind of money they want for the few shows I might be interested. 250 channels really means I watch 6. The rest is junk.
I kind of prefer watching entire shows one after the other on hulu and such places.
I think the number of cable cutters is the reason for these evil monopolies' support of anti-net-neutrality. They know they can't get the customers back to their restrictive cable services so they want a piece of the netflix pie, a big piece.
Ha ha!, Hardly, here in the UK our broadband market is basically a monopoly controlled by British Telecom, only selected areas that they have cherry picked gets internet access good enough to do clever stuff like video streaming.
It will probably be decades before they decide to allow me internet access good enough for video.
I voted "other", 'cause, while I don't have cable....I don't watch on the interweb either. Fact is, I don't watch any "outside" programming- only DVDs of old movies/sitcoms. I can't even stand to be in the same room with a TV blaring cable/broadcast garbage. The noise/unnatural speech patterns/offensiveness of the programs; and the commercials!!!! How does anyone tolerate that nonsense? I won't even patronize any places which have TVs in public areas.
I guess most people are so used to TV; have been exposed to it for so long; that they just don't notice how terrible it is- but believe me, if you give it up for just a little while, you'll be astounded how your thinking changes in a short period of time; and how you will become much more sensitive to what is being broadcast when exposed to it.
And the mere THOUGHT of actually PAYING for that nonsense?! Me? Not in this lifetime!
I quick check shows that I can get 27 TV channels here without using a satellite or cable service. Another check shows that I've watched less than 5 hours in the last week. I think I could survive without it, but I'd miss University Challenge (as a former participant!), Antiques Roadshow, and NCIS.
Yeah, that's the part that bothers me most about TV, it is always one-way. I guess the internet doesn't really have too many things worth watching, but at least it is interactive and I decide where to go, what to do and I can provide input too.
