Are there any Unix/Linux Certifications?


Apart from RHCE? (which is solely on RH Linux distro). How does one lands a job configuring Nix and Nix programming anyway?

There are all sorts of certs. CompTIA has Linux+, Novell has a cert for their distros, and there's the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) certs. In addition, Sun and HP have certs for Solaris and HPUX respectively. I imagine some of the other big vendors may too. I remember that there was some talk a year or two back about a BSD certification initiative but I'm not usre what happened to it.

As for me, I don't have any certs but I do have a CS degree. I'd recommend getting a University degree if possible for your situation.

Several of the local colleges here offer certification classes too. So you can get a certificate and credit towards a degree. Or, if you're more of a self-starter who doesn't need a lot of handholding, there are even some universities that accept the certs directly for credit (no need to waste any time sitting in class.) CompTIA publishes a list of them:
