are P4 processors/motherboards backwards compatible?

i know this is a stupid question, but i need to ask anyways.

will a processor with say, 533mghz FSB work on a motherboard that supports 800mghz FSB speed? i would think so, but i want to make sure before i start buyin all teh parts for my new comp.

Check the motherboard specs.. if its the same socket type, in some cases it should be compatible, in others, it might not.
