Application virtualization
Hi all,
We've been helping some local organizations to move from privative software to FOSS. At the moment we're kind of stuck with a special case: This organization developed their own internal business management system software (budgets, projects, etc.) using MS products (Visual Basic accessing a SQL Server via ODBC). They're using this software in their LAN desktops and now they want to use it from outside their private network via dial-up connections. We've been thinking about many options: 1. Using the same software from the outside (via VPN) Unsuitable because the client-server data transfer (via ODBC) is very heavy and they have very limited bandwidth 2. Using a VNC-like solution Unsuitable because there's no way to enable two or more users to use the software concurrently and very limited bandwidth We were wondering if there's any experience out there in this kind of matter. As far as now we're looking for a solution similar to what a "Citrix Presentation Server" can do. Thanks in advance for any information that you may share with us. Regards, JT |
Moved to general, doesn't seam to be a Linux - Software question.
