Application usage statistics

Do you know of any application/site that measures the real usage of applications ? There are tons of polls regarding which is best, statistics of downloadds and other stuff like that, but this are not real, as everybody could choose to vote something that it uses rarely.

I have seen this in an multiplayer game, which had a statistic about what mod was played more each day... Maybe it would be intereseting if it would be available for general applications as well. (like a deamon that records the data and sends it to a server)

(the only thing that I know of is http://counter.li.org/ - but I would like more information)

Hi

Well the users need to install some program and that program will have to call home, so I guess a lot of users will not install it. Debian has a program that does this, and when you install Debian, you get a description of what it does, and you are asked if you want it installed.

Thanks, this sounds like what I was looking for. About the users not installing it, 70.000 people that installed the debian thing seem more than enough .

The information in popcon is interesting, even if I would like it to be a bit more summarized .
