Anyone with experience in microphones......
 

Hey everyone,

I'm looking into microphones and I needed some help on deciding between a few of them...the marshall mxl v67g, marshall mxl 1006 bp, and the behringer b-1's. From what I've seen from the spec sheets (links below..couldnt find the specs for the mxl1006...best i could find is the one on the music123 site), everything looks pretty similar to me. But if anyone has experience with any of these or any feedback of any sort...i'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Oh, btw, at guitar center, the mxl1006 is being sold for 100 bucks with a small condensor mic that comes along with it as well.

I'd suggest that the MXL1006 is the way to go, although the v67G isn't shoddy from what I've heard, but isn't good for all voices. The Behringer is okay, but picks up way to much noise for my liking.

Thanks for the info.......Is there anything you can tell me about the electronics in it?...for the v67g, ithe specs said something about it being transformer balanced output....the behringer and 1006 don't have this...but both claim noise reduction. I was wondering what the truth was on that.

Condensor mics are charged all the time ( theres a charge across the capacitor plates ). So you can get a hum from the transformer. With a decent setup this isn't usually a problem. Its probably got a bridge or somthing similar, or what they could mean is a balanced wire. See this Teck Talk.

That's music123's definition for "balanced"...so now that makes sense after i read the link you sent....I found the frequency response of some of the microphones...i put the links down below...the v67 has a pretty decent dip in the lower range....but it stays level for most of the way and even through the high frequencies and no attenuation at all (little bit less work for whatever you're running it through). The 1006 has a better low range than the v67 but high end is a little shaky....both seem to be great microphones though....atleast for what I'm using it for...mainly singing/acoustic guitar....I think I may just have to end up saving up a little more and just get both sets ..esp. since the 1006 comes with an extra mic at guitar center :cool:

I think they meant 200 ohms instead of 200W for the impedance on the spec sheets

I came across this Review Site today. I like it ( as they seem to back up what I'm saying. )

Yea, harmony central is a great place to go for the reviews...I actually checked them out when I was looking at the music123 reviews......i just called guitar center and the mic i actually tested out there was the mxl 990...and it comes with the mxl 991(skinny condensor).....I checked out the specs on the 990 and its pretty much the same as the 1006 .....i went back to the website i was looking at and checked out the 2003....i think ive made up my mind to go with that one along with the 603s.....$170 for both and it comes with a shockmount. Check it out...
