Anyone here use a TP-link router?

They're made in China. And according to Wall Street J, the US government wants to ban them as a security threat.

I stopped using them because of the frequent drops and restarts. Using Ubiquiti lately.

I use their un-managed switches and they all seem to work.

As far as router go and the method by which I isolate my experimental or lab network freom the "stable" net work that my parents and our guests uee. Our main router is made by Luxul and my secondary router is a netgear NightHawk RAX54 of some modle distingisher or another. In addition to this rather complex network I also have a fully managed TP-Link switch behind the NightHawk router that i mentioned earlier on.

My only TP-Link is an un-managed 5-port switch.

I have one that I temporarily set up as my main router only to compare performance running on their firmware vs with their firmware replaced by OpenWRT. It ran very well for me with both firmwares with basic settings and a few users.

I have since set up this TP-Link (as I have a similarly annoying other manufacturer’s router) as I wanted to use it, as a dumb access point with OpenWRT.

I now try avoid routers that force you to set up an account with the manufacturer, that frequently connect to their servers, or that only let you manage your router through a phone app. TP-Link isn’t the only offender. If I can’t avoid such routers, then I will make sure to buy one whose firmware can be replaced with open source firmware. There are others besides OpenWRT.

If you go down this route, though, you have to commit to reading and digging a bit more than needed to set up a consumer router, if networking isn’t what you do for a living.
