Anyone else has a snake?
Yup, i bought myself a snake two weeks ago. I was always fascinated by these animals, and now that i have one i have to say that they are truly amazing. Not very intelligent like some other animals i have (3 cats, couple of ducks and a black Crow) but it's very cool nonetheless. Of course it will never learn how to return to it's acquarium alone, nor will it ever like to be petted, but it really likes going through my fingers and climbing on my table lamp in front of the monitor. Ooh yeah, it often sleeps under the keyboard, and it seems it doesn't mind my typing above it's head.
It eats a small mouse once a week (you can get them in pet or reptile stores) and it can go without food for almost 2 months. It is very shy in the beginnig but once it figures out you won't hurt it, it becomes curious and even (if i can define it as such) playful.
It is not poisounous, it's a american red rat snake AKA Red corn snake.
I'm really happy i have it now, after so many years i wished for one.
Anyways, here's a (bad) picture www.geocities.com/nskl86/snake.jpg (you will maybe have to type it into the browser rather than following the link if you get a "not found" error)
So anybody else as crazy as me? Does anybody else own some exotic animals (no, family members don't count)? I'm really curious to know.
Although to feed, play and give all the needed attention to all my pets it takes about 2 hours a day, I must admit that it's very satisfing having animals in the house...

I miss my snake. He use to get out and I'd find him asleep on my chest in my bed cause i was the warmest object in the room. But then one day he got out, couldn't find him. I think the found a hole in the house somewhere..
I almost got a corn snake once but opted for a King Snake instead cause my brother had two pythons at the time, so we didn't necesarily need another python.
I'd get one but my current girl says that is her biggest fear, snakes..
My roommate had a 4' colombian red-tailed boa constrictor back in my undergraduate days. Same thing though, it never really got used to being petted. It was fun until one day my other roomate was holding him and the snake decided he wanted to crawl into the space between the couch cushions. And for the next 6 months or so, the snake lived inside our couch (not under the cushions, but literally inside the couch). Every once in a while you would be sitting there watching TV and this snake head would stickout from between the cushions and look around. It was freaky, I still can't sit down on a couch without looking twice.

trickykid: Great, it looks like you know much more about snakes than me. In case i have any questions, do you mind answering them? For example, i think my snake is about to "change skin" (i don't know the correct term in english). I guess i should just leave him do everything by itself, not help him in any way, right? Should i feed him during this time?
Thanks!
NSKL if your snale is shedding it's good to pretty much leave it alone. when they are first getting ready to shed their eyes go blue due to the skin over the eyes loosening and they can't see so they may tend to bite. As far as feeding I have a 13 foot Burmese an after the blue goes off his eyes I feed him but it is different for each individual snake. Also you should see if you can get him to eat dead it's much safer for the snake, live rats and mice can kill or injure a snake if they aren't eaten quickly.
Yah, when your snake is shedding, it is best to leave him/her alone. I once had to interfere with my snake as he shedded once but the skin over his eyes didn't shed off.
Lets just say I almost got bitten several dozen times as I had to do some handy work holding his head, using tweezers to remove the skin without poking his eyes out so the little devil could see again.
I found a smallish copperhead in my backyard while I was mowing the lawn a few weeks ago. I started playing crocodile Hunter with it until I realized how stupid that was. So I just carried it off my property and let it go.
I never owned a snake, but I had a friend. It was a small snake, and was cool, although I am not a snake fan. I dont fear them, but I guess it is to exotic for me right now.
Oh, that particular snake dies within two weeks because my friend was was placing water into its home and it got underneath the bowl and got squashed. She ended up getting a bigger nsake, but I dont know what kind.
