Any doctors?

I was leaning on the desk, with a biro between my teeth and the desk, and it slipped and stabbed me in the gum. (Don't laugh) It dug this little bit out of my gum and really hurt. After few hours the pain subsided. I thought that it would just get better on it's own.

However, its starting to get more and more painful and the days go by (it happened on saturday ~ midday). It something wrong? I didn't think it would get infected because it's in my mouth, but that may increase the risk. What should I do?

Thanks.

(normally I don't post medical problems in linux forums. i'm bored and my gum hurts when i speak.)

Visit a doctor

It most likely is infected - everyone's mouth is full of germs!

Why on earth were you doing that in the first place? What did you expect to happen!

I would get a real doctor, as in one who can look at and and not a student cramming for medical finals *breaks out in sweat*, to see you. Until then, some simple painkillers like paracetamol (aceteminophen) of ibuprofen and maybe an antiseptic mouthwash should keep you feeling human.

Thanks guys - I'm gonna try some salt water and mouthwash and see if it gets worse - if so I'll go to a doctor. My doctor is a bit odd though - last time I went he tried to twist my arm up behind my back when I shook his hand.

Why not call NHS Direct? 0845 46 47 - tell them your sypmtoms etc and they'll tell you what you need to do.

Seems I'm not alone - I've been on hold for 5 mins... and counting

they said they'd call me back. they haven't. i even pay taxes that i don't have to! i deserve priviledged treatment! (i can't be arsed to send off the no interest on my account for being under 16 form)

I'm gonna risk my GP and get an appointment - NHS Direct think it's infected.
