Antialiasing - the neverending story

I've read a lot of howtos and threads about setting antialiasing on/off in KDE/Moziilla/etc, but I can't find solution how to set it on just for certain font size.

When the antialiasing is on, small letters are ugly and it's difficult to read them.

When the antialiasing is off, big letters are ugly, simply because they are not antialiased.

Thats why Windows XP are IMHO nicer - small letter are not antialiased (so they look well) and big letter also look well (just becouse they *are* antialiased).

Is there any way how to do this also in linux (or in particular application - e.g. Firefox) ?

Thanks in advance!
