I pay my monthly bill through EFT transfers from my bank account at no charge, but I don't allow any company to initiate the EFT for me automatically.
I have had too many bad experiences where a company made what I legitimately think was an honest mistake – but the money was gone (for a time) anyway. This practice lets me "desk check" the bill before paying it. (I once caught a bill that was exactly twice as large as it should have been ... because everything was listed twice. When I reported it to the company they acted very concerned, and I suspect that I know why. How many incorrect bills had they sent out that month?)
