Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

When I got my first computer in 1997 (2.5 GB Hard drive and 32 MB RAM for $800) I was nervous as a cat in a room full of mousetraps, sure that if I pressed the wrong key the computer would blow up. I went online for the first time and AOL asked me for a user name. All the ones I picked were already taken. I kept getting knocked offline because the NIC on the phone line was bad, but I didn't know that. I thought AOL was mad at me for picking the wrong names!
In growing panic I looked up and saw my husband's Japanese tiger print above the desk. He had taped a little American flag on a stick to the frame. I counted letters in my head and it fit. Typed in "tigerflag" and it worked. I've been tigerflag ever since.
My husband has since died, but the tiger and the flag are still above my desk.
For my first few years in the net, I was TheCatMan (a blue-room nickname I acquired as a missionary - whether people like me or not, their cats usually do), until I learned the name was already taken. Hotmail's suggestions started at thecatman81 and went up, implying - I thought - that there were at least 80 more of us. And you know cats aren't herd animals.
At that time I lived in Cornwall, and I'm a huge fan of the Cornish pasty, so when my extensive research failed to turn up another pastychomper, that became my name. Now I've been officially chomping the things for about ten years - in fact I was eating one in the aforementioned blue room when I first met my wife.
Interestingly, I've since learned that my handle could be misconstrued to mean "loser with no tan." Enough said.
Off and on I've thought of using a clever username, but anything with jedi, guru or master in it just sounds too arrogant. And most others I've thought of would eventually conflict with my low tolerance for corn.
Distribution: Slackware (mainly) and then a lot of others...
You mean to tell me that I can go into a resturant and ask them for a 'giant swamp rat deep fried ' and I would get the dish !
Here in India you can be kicked out of the resturant just for asking something like that.
