an oddity in Distrowatch
It has little practical import, but doesn't it seem strange that Distrowatch calls itself if its URL uses a .org?

both .com and .org are registered and resolve to the same IP.

Probably because .com will appear more official or professional to the eyes of most people. (professional business versus volunteers) Yes, if true it would be a silly reason, but people are silly. Aristocracy conjures an image of the poor masses being ruled by a small number of rich people. Terrible! But "upper class" (aristocracy) conjures an image of the (poor) free () masses ruled by, but equal to (), the upper class. The difference of even one word can make a huge difference in the impression people have. It may not be DistroWatch's intention, but it could be.

furthermore, AFAIK distrowatch is indeed a commercial operation with paid advertising etc. As such I'd argue that presenting itself as as opposed to makes perfect sense.

I don't think anyone has stated there is a problem, merely asked for opinions.

True. The content contains lots of advertising, and as such using .com in the site name and domain makes perfect sense.
