What is a good movie?

What is a good movie?

French only.

Dex et le cinéma, « Qu'est-ce qu'un bon film ». 25minuts which create context and to let me better comprehend some of my own reactions to movies. “... practice our sensibility towards cinema... and to, really make the effort to comprehend what you see, what is cinema, how movies are made, how decisions are taken and why they are taken.

listen to yourself, when you talk about the movie...

The only thing that counts is the capacity to make the difference... to try to comprehend what cinema is and what is this movie I watch, how it had been made by whom. It is only by quitting the matrix that you can see the lines of code of the movie and seize to be a passive spectator, a consumer...”

Apart from re-arraning things in my own head and creating coherence, the guy advocates humility in a way that clashes with my own attitude towards most of the movies I have seen in my life. That quality can be found on YouTube is not new to me, but the number of erudite youngsters who teach me valuable facts and even clean no-frills wisdom these days, astonishes me. France is cool for this, in any way (Germany was not; the previous remark would not make sense otherwise).

So it suggests that you should watch movies with a certain attitude?
I don't know. I want to be entertained, simple as that. But intelligence, wisdom, emotion, politics and art are certainly part of that entertainment.
That's why I can never become a (full-time) critic: when I don't like it I don't watch it.

My wife dragged me into many movies that I had no intention to see. I could even argue with her and list my reasons. But too often, she was right and I was not. Even telling you the details that change my mind during or after the movie would not make it comprehensible. A good movie may be many things, quite often it appears to be something that I had not expected.

Nowadays, I am careful, watch the trailers with her or find other sources before we discuss (not “argue”). She convinces me quite often and real disappointments are rare.

One I had a ball binge watching was Vwars.

Climate change releases old prehistoric viruses that effect us.
The yarn netflixs makes though stretches my belief system. Lots of dumb things done in the series.

No cruise missiles? No atom bombs? Recoiless rifles ? Mini guns?

I laughed when the politicians started injected themselves with the virus.
To be on the winning side so to speak.

Creative whatever and all that.
