The Quiet Earth Superb Australian Sci Fi/Psychological masterpiece.... DON'T miss the last several seconds!
For decent popcorn movie with Star Studded cast written by Tarrantino but directed by Tony Scott to advantage -
True Romance worth seeing repeatedly but then I was the only one at the movie house that burst into laughter at the Christopher Walken "watch scene" in "Pulp Fiction"
Warning! These are adult movies and probably not for the typical Action/Adventure/Horror fans (the only Horror film that ever even made my pulse quicken was the original B&W "The Haunting" and maybe "28 Days Later".... real horror was "Outbreak" not billed as such) . With True Romance the only exception, they require some intelligence. They are a bit cerebral but exceptionally well crafted and at many points, quite riveting.
The Andromeda Strain (1971 original, not 2008 of the same name)
Paint Your Wagon
The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes
Enemy Mine
Futureworld
Silent Running
Brainstorm
Oh Brother, Where Art Thou
ping OregonJim - It is such a shame that Natalie Wood died during final production of Brainstorm, for many reasons, but not the least of which is compromising the ending of such a powerful movie concept as Brainstorm. In such a limited space they touched on so many beautiful possibilities as well as problems and pitfalls that make someone contemplate the power of such an invention and it's impact on human communication. I was particularly moved by the trading of tapes that bypassed all interpretation providing full insight into one person's point of view in assessment of the other - Love in it's purest form. As overworked as the term is, it was truly Awesome.... and then they embark on The Journey, The One that nobody can communicate. "What does it mean to die?" Rather obvious is that Th Orgasm Loop would be a certainty and possibly a serious problem.
A 1994 comedy starring Jeremy Piven called 'PCU' - It did not do so well, and some say it is just a 1990s version of Porky's but I rather enjoyed it, and in some ways rings true today, with just the utter nonsense of political correctness and the fear of offending someone else, means the truth is often watered down or worse in the name of not being offensive.
The Bourne series of movies are good action movies
Hunt for Red October
The Sum of all fears
The Battle of Britain
On the Beach ( 2000 )
The Quiet Earth is a good movie, but not Australian as someone said, it was made in New Zealand
@Jeebiz "PCU" featured Jon Favreau as well (and P Funk too!) and provided one of Favreau's first ever contacts, in Jeremy Piven, that would lead to becoming a full-fledged director. It's weirdly funny and light on the surface but a bit deeper between the lines....some say an homage to David Lynch, and all in all a decent if a bit unpolished movie.
The Loved One
Hell is for Heroes
Beetlejuice Trading Places
On The Beach
I liked Trading Places, even if it is 'dated' it's message is still true because of greed and exploitation. Michael Keaton in Beetlejuice was just awesome too
