this new planet of the apes film was a really nice movie:
"rise of the planet of the apes", nine points out of ten.

I was honestly and completely surprised by Cowboys and Aliens.

I expected the movie to be a joke. And of course, in one sense it was. But it was also an extremely good screenplay, with a very good score, and a cast of very experienced actors who had been given very richly textured roles to play. Until Oscar Night rolls around, "highly recommended."

'Clifford' (1994)

Martin Short plays a 10 year old schoolboy obsessed with getting to 'Dynosaur World' theme park. His mother and father cant cope with him, so they off-load him to his uncle Martin (Charles Grodin).

A really terrible movie, but some of the scenes are hilarious, especially the kitchen table scene where Uncle Martin is telling Clifford off for his bad behaviour.

Uncle Martin: "Are you listening to me?!"

Clifford: "yes!"

Uncle Martin: "Are You?!"

Clifford: "Yes! I Am..."

It is a pretty good movie, with Kurt Russell. I remember seeing the original movie as a kid, The Thing from Outer Space, with James Arness aka Matt Dillion playing the Thing! But I would say John Carpenter's version is better.

One movie I missed when it came out, and recently watched, and it's pretty good:

Eragon

The critics didn't like it I guess, so that's why I might have missed it.

what was this old movie?

It is roughly about the same period, like in the movie the bounty (island mutinery)

So, what I can remember about this movie.

They (British officers) are in a small fort in wood. There are those British, and they are surrounded by opponents. They shoot with their rifles, outside on the opponent. They are stuck. One officer got hit by a bullet. They are kinda trapped. The officers had maybe black or red uniforms in this wooden fort.

I think that they had a boot/ship before, and they are trapped on an island.

What could it be? maybe it is a movie from 1977-1985... I dont know. Sorry for so little memories/information.

"Stalker" by Tarkovsky (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalker_(film))

It's a briliant (and long) sci-fi film. It belongs to the category of "intelligent" sci-fi (as opposed to films like The Independence Day, etc.)

@ sycamorex- Stalker, interesting movie.

I really need to track down more Russian/Eastern European movies, they seem to be less 'paint by numbers' than the junk coming out of the U.S..

The 'trapped in a fort' bit sounds like it could be Zulu-

The Bothersome Man. Surreal and full of irony and black humour. Great movie.
