Yeah, the "how to " or "the way these situations work out is " add colour. I don't take myself seriously enough to file it as a guilty pleasure; But if I felt guilty I wouldn't watch it.

Apparently the guy who plays 'Sam' the other spy, (who is ratting on him to the FBI), is Leslie Nielsen, of 'Naked Gun' fame. My son informed me. There is a lot less slapstick in this, even if the women do go looking for notice. Sam's character makes no sense either, but don't start me.

Allow me to retract that remark about Leslie Nielsen. After a quick look at Naked gun, I'll have to check on what my kid is smoking. Series 2 of Burn Notice seems like it's being written by the Special Effects guy on a tight budget. Mind you, if I was a burned spy like that guy, I'd decamp to Qatar or Dubai, perhaps even Saudi Arabia, and write the book that tells all (including current operatives) and ask do they want to talk to me instead of taking that treatment .

Outlander is improving on me. I found series 1 slow to start. It's turning into an unusual look at time travel. The heroine is a newlywed English nurse just after WW2 who is moved back 200 years in time.

The thing I never got about time travel is the other travels(s) involved; as the earth revolves and rotates around the sun, travelling back or forward to the same place would only be possible in units of one exact year. And as the universe is expanding, it wouldn't even be possible then… but why spoil a good story by thinking too much?

Where is everybody gone? Is nobody watching anything?

Jesse Stone - Death in Paradise

I went looking for the 'death in paradise' tv series and came accross this Paradise turns out to be some one horse town, and you find out fairly quick it's a whodunit. It's slow moving, but relaxing. Nobody breaks out a sweat. "Murder out in the sticks" might have been a better name.

I was still watching Burn Notice, although less frequently.
Then I started with this:

The story really drew me in, plot, action and romance.

But it has some serious flaws.

So much oppression and (sexual) violence, against women in particular. I understand the writer wants to juxtapose a 20th century woman (who no doubt would have been perceived as a "harlot" or even "witch" back then) to 18th century ethics, but at times it seems the show is constantly obsessing over this particular aspect, and the feeling of helpless rage.

Warning: some minor spoilers in the next paragraph
And then there's homophobia - it's OK because it's 18th century people being homophobic, but why does the villain of the show have to be a cruel and murderous suppressed homosexual, and why does that have to play a major role in the story. All these not-so-good aspects culminate in the last 2 episodes of season 1, which I made the mistake of watching just before going to sleep. Between these 2 episodes there must be a full hour of depictions of violence, physical and psychological, that does not contribute to the plot in any way. And we don't even get the satisfaction of knowing that the villain is dead, it's one of those typical TV show tricks, make it ambiguous enough to leave a backdoor for bringing him back in later.

I was - and am - impressed by some outstanding acting though.

I also found out that the author is US American and not British, as I previously assumed. That puts an uncomfortable spin on many aspects of the story.
