Stonegold - you've misunderstood - Cricket largely originated in my country and I have already gave respect in other posts in this thread to Cricket , Tendulkar etc - my light hearted joke wasnt aimed at cricket at all - it was aimed at certain countries who unfortunately dont get to play football as standard - were lucky - we get to play it from a very early age in school - It would be nice to see certain other countries get that same chance - they don't know what they're missing.

F.A.O. Skyline and stonegold84

Just for the historical note.

It should be remembered that while both the games of cricket and football (that's proper football and not "rugby for poofs" i.e. American football ) origins are largely (totally in reference to cricket) the UK.

The reasons for the spread of the sports are connected to social class and the former British Empire.

The football was considered "lower class" and therefore followed/supported by the "workers". It's true to say that the worlds working classes outnumber the middle/ruling classes by many many millions to 1. Hence the virtually global input to the sport of football.

Whereas, cricket was considered to be a gentlemans sport i.e. middle and upper/ruling classes. Hence the reason that the countries that have strong cricket traditions are almost entirely the ones that have previously suffered at the hands of the victorian middle classes (India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Carribean, etc etc).

Yes, yes, I know that it is now all multi-national and the class barriers are dissolving in front of our very eyes (though this is mainly due to the non-UK nations attitudes showing up the British establishment for what it really is).

I applaud stonegold84's enjoyment of cricket, though he should remember that it is far from being a classless sport (though more so in some countries than others). India's magnificent educational abilities are proof of that. I suspect that he would only have to look a little further north in the indian sub-continent to see that it would be hard to imagine the likes of eminent Imran Khan ever having to have lived and worked in the back streets of Karachi.

From my point of view I would like to see a little political correctness brought into the British cricketing hierarchy. It doesn't matter how hard they try, the "board" and the selectors still come across as a "bunch of stuffed shirts". All this "you can't come into the clubhouse unless you are ""correctly attired"" crap, poorly disguised at tradition, is just middle class rubbish rules, designed to keep the "scum" out.

The epitome of the british establishment being the MCC. It's just a club, but I bet that most of "us" wouldn't be given house room, let alone membership.

regards

Mr Angry (aka John)

I agree with u bigjohn..... I dun want to argue with any 1 as we all are linux communities. Just as a matter of interest i wanted to find out the no. of cricket lovers & the indian population in this forum. My main aim is to find out the no. of Indians in this forum. That is why i named this thread as "All cricket lovers plz take part"

coz indians love cricket verymuch, though hockey is our national game. In the world of cricket Australia is an unbeatable team(for the past 4 to 6 yrs) That's y they have won two consecutive world cups & one in 1989.

For any team, it is difficult to face australian bowling & difficult to catch australian batsman. But Indian cricket team is the only team who can beat australia.. Because indian cricket team has a strong batting order..

Iam proud to say that

In nov & dec the australia tour on india is there....

Let see what happens......

Well I agree with you stonegold84 that India can beat the Aussies while they tour India. But being honest,I must have to say that the Aussie side are much more professional and they allways work as a team.(unlike others). And it is really tough for us to beat them while playing outside the subcontinent.

I've seen a few hockey games on TV - quite good watching.

Recently, I have taken to watching a little of the base ball shown at "stupid oclock" in the morning, just before I go to work, though I'm not sure if I'm enjoying it, or whether it's the novelty of seeing on UK TV, but

The one sport that I have picked up on recently is AUSSIE RULES. It's truely excellent. It's also truely MAD - but makes good watching on a sunday morning (usually most of a match and the highlights of the rest)

If any of you (the non-Aussies) amongst us get a chance to look at some then do it.

regards

John

I agree with this.. Australia have won 3 world cups sofar...

1st time in 1987 (i dun know the opponent)
2nd in 1999 (against pak)
3rd in 2003 (against india)

They are the highest no. world cup winners.

They have the record of continues victroies in one day matches (28 i suppose).. with that record they are comin to india.

Let see watz hapning........
