Abiword Plugin under MSWord

I don't feel like going throught the trouble of signing up for the Abiword forum right now so I'm gonna ask here.

I know this sounds blasphemous but I was wondering if there was a plug-in that allowed you to edit native Abiword formats under MS Word.

The reason I bring this up is because you just can't avoid MSOffice. If you use someone else's' computer or one in a public libary setting, that machine is more likely to be running MSOffice despite the fact that is quite expensive and Abword is quite free (those volume discounts).

Another idea would be to try to copy Abiword on a portable hardrive or USB stick and see if it would run on any Windows box. The only problem there is how much does Abiword use the Registry or VB dlls or whether it it has every thing it needs to run in one directory tree.

running abiword on windows is not copying the linux binaries and plug it into a windows box. Unless there are windows binaries for Abiword (which I doubt!), you cannot run Abiword on windows. (Ok, there are emulators... but thats probably not the way you wanna go).

Open Office does MS Office documents just fine (You can open, edit and save them, with all the features of MS Office). I use it myself to exchange files with my dad, works like a charm.

ps. A plugin for abiword to save as .doc is a more likely solution to your problem, though I do not know wether it exists or not.

Yes. You can save AbiWord files as MS-DOC format and I found that in some cases the compatibility betwen Abiword and MSWord is better than OpenOffice and MSWord.
