A site to upload images and get back a URL of the file (image).

I had an internet site where I could upload images (for instance those taken by the screenshot facility) and then get the URL of that image and post it in a forum. It was free of charge but now it has gone paid. Could you give me the URL of some good site of this type?

Put "free file hosting" into any search engine and you will find many. I use both Dropbox and Google Drive, and there are many more avaiable.

Yes, thanks. To make myself more clear, please see photobucket.com. Here you upload photos mostly. Now, when you get the URL of the photo you uploaded, you copy and paste that URL into the edit window of (almost) any forum, and the forum users reading your post will immediately see your photo. Of course it could be any other type of image (.png for instance). Besides google drive is not free of charge, I think.

I've used a lot of file sharing sites over the years, most of them evaporated from either poor participation or a lacking business plan. I got good usage from Dropbox for awhile but they scared me with a big change that similar events often had preceded dissolution in others but they must've done something right because they're still a going concern and I still use them but no longer for anything I want to link or get back to, especially images.

Because of that scare I started using IMGUR (https://imgur.com) and they have a very strong following it seems for comedy, memes and such, as well as a very friendly, non-invasive, not nagging business plan. Thy have a free version that is funded by their expanded paid version but they've never spammed me one bit. Their interface is superb with strong editing app self-contained and numerous links for different types of sites and usage as well as a selection of thumbnail sizes and links at a simple click to suit any forum's restrictions.

Check IMGUR out. There's no downside I've seen in almost 3 years.

IMO the most important aspect is that they allow "hotlinking", i.e. you can share a direct link to the image, not a web page.
imgur allows that, a few others do too.
Additionally, think whether you specifically want an image uploading site or a general file uploading site.

Photobucket's main competitor was ImageShack, last I checked. That was a long time ago though.

Google Drive and Dropbox are free, as long as you don't go over the size limits, which are ~4GB. So is Box. You can store any file type, including photos, and link them to any site or allow others to download individual files if you want.
