I find it interesting that you see "stars" in the upper right of the page. Mine has no starts on it. What are you using to log into linuxquestions?

That is a quote by Musk regarding your Twitter feed, should you have one.

I understand now. I did not get it because I am not a twit. I created an account there for my computers to use to report faults before going down, but I automated all of that and have not logged in myself for several years.
So twitter is seeing stars...
Avoiding that punchline...manfully.

Musk accusing Twitter of deceit, threatens to back out of 'deal.' Should be an interesting legal battle and might cost Musk one of his 219B. in order to back out. Lots of maneuvering going on between a 'Titan' and a social media giant.

'Mudge' the whistleblower's testimony may help Musk to back out of the deal.

"Twitter executives put profits ahead of security, leaving the door open to infiltration by foreign agents and hackers, the company's former head of security told Congress on Tuesday.

"Twitter leadership is misleading the public, lawmakers, regulators and even its own board of directors," Peiter Zatko testified during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. "The company's cybersecurity failures make it vulnerable to exploitation, causing real harm to real people."

I will believe that only when I see it.

While I have never used any form of "social media," and I never will, I think that Musk's offer was vastly overpriced.

My phone got so smart that, back in 2019, it left me for another phone.

I never replaced it. Very soon after, I was at a pub at an airport, where I used to chat with fellow passengers about the weather in detroit, etc., and on this occasion, I noticed the pub was full and everybody was staring at their devices. It reminded me of a Star Trek, Next Generation, episode, S05E06, "The Game," in which the entire crew became addicted to a virtual reality game.

Musk has never supported "free speech" in his entire life. He supports "free speech" only for Musk!

By some estimates 20M $ per month. "The hell with it … even though Starlink is still losing money & other companies are getting billions of taxpayer $, we’ll just keep funding Ukraine govt for free

What exactly does that have to do with Musk or Twitter?

Well, to answer:
Not for free, they are defending democracy. That used to have value for all free nations, even if they were not very democratic. Since they are doing our job for us (to prevent WWIII) we provide what help we can. This also reduces the impact of the war on the economy of the EU, UK, USA, CA, and most other nations! We could withdraw all support and make everything MUCH worse! (If we were really VERY stupid!)

Please let me know how your topic (and my answer) is not off topic please.

Your sudden disconcert at off topic content in a thread in 'General' is somewhat amusing considering that you, others and myself have engaged in discussion of Ukraine, Nato and other 'topics' since at least post #94.
Musk caught a lot of heat for broaching the subject of a peace process that envisioned Ukraine ceding some territory and damping down the prospects of tactical nukes or more being used by a humiliated Putin. I'm sure some of Starlink's stock holders are also concerned at the prospect of financing what must be a substantial outlay in capital and equipment in a long term conflict.

I have to say that if I were associated in any way with Musk I would worry about his considering himself some kind of expert on either military matters or statecraft, two fields for which he has shown no great aptitude.
I am surprised that the holders of Twitter would actually consider selling the operation to Musk under any circumstances given his past legal and behavior problems, but that may just be me. They may plan on using the "take the money and run" attitude and let the firestorm be far in the rear view mirror.
