This is strange as well as interesting.

I've first-hand seen both sides of this issue:

A friend of mine is a child of the Depression, whose mother couldn't get enough to eat. So, she has birth defects in her feet, which produce constant pain. She's had bad experiences with opiate addiction and therefore won't touch those drugs. However, cannibis, prescribed by her doctor, has proved itself to be an astonishingly-effective pain medication for her. It somehow blocks the pain, without producing the drugged stupor nor the addiction risk of opiates. She can function, and live a fairly normal life. She is most certainly not 'stoned.'

But I have also spent time in Silicon Valley, where I've seen the high-profile "pot 'clinics'" complete with a smiling doctor who will give you a prescription at the door so you can walk right in to the place to get high. This is a revolting mockery of "medical" anything.

I say ... "if you want to legalize marijuana, Congress, just shut-up and do it." You have the authority. In the long run, both alcohol and tobacco are far more destructive. So is the "War on Drugs" with its insane mandatory-sentences.

Meanwhile – extensive serious-medical research should be devoted to both THC and Cannibis for their obviously remarkable powers of pain palliation. It may well be that many people who are suffering from the sourges of, for example, Oxycontin addiction, could receive better resolution of their chronic pain, and do so without the awful addiction. The stuff works. Don't ask me how, but I've seen it. It blocks certain forms of pain ... selectively. It can be used to provide pain treatment for years, whereas opiates fairly quickly become addictive.

If " the war on drugs " stopped; the American economy would collapse in a month!! The sale of illegal narcotics is, by far, the most profitable business existing here!!
