Hi Scacey

there seems to be a misunderstanding.

Offering email services is NOT my business.
As I run a couple of servers, I have to do with email.
If I help him out, this is no business for me, just some help for a fellow forum-member.
Like my nextdoor neighbour's daughter has an email-address on my server, without cost.

I agree, thunderbird does a good job and I would advise to combine the two.

Maybe it is hard to imagine, but there still are some people that help out others
without the urge to do business or to advertise.
Isn't that the idea behind foss?

Regards,
Jan

yes. I've misunderstood. My apologies.

Please continue to offer assistance where you can. That's what we're all here for.
(I try not to think about the number of no-cost mailboxes on my server... )

Thanks, no hard feelings, there are enough out there that do not think like you and me.
Some control is necessary, that's ok

Kind regards,
Jan

the usual mail providers do a fairly good job at filtering out completely random spam.
so if one is still getting spam, it is probably due to having given out their email address in the wrong places.
the solution is NOT to continue doing that and abandon email addresses every few months; the solution is to not give out one's primary email address in the wrong places (and possibly have secondary or even tertiary email addresses where that isn't possible).

Hi ondoho

That is not the only reason. When one of your contacts gets hacked then your email-address will be sold to spammers.

Another problem is that too little webmasters take time to report abuse, because it costs time.
Every once in a while I convince ISP's to take down servers that send spam, if all webmasters would do that
there would be much less spam. Most ISP's do not want spammer, specifically a large german ISP does do nothing to stop spam,
where russian, dutch and brasilian ISPs block those servers within hours.

So it is not the fault of the user (only), we as "specialists" should inform all our users on how to avoid spammers.

Regards,
Jan
