A Boot loader question

I have a dual boot with SUSE9.3 (default, of course) and WindowsXP . I'd like to upgrade WindowsXP to WindowsXP_64, but I'm afraid that the installation process can remove or alter, in some way, the linux boot loader. Is it possible? If so, how can I solve the problem ? thanx in advance.

Installing Windows will most definitely wipe out the grub bootloader.

Fortunately, it is easy enough to reinstall. After you've finished with Windows, you can boot to SuSE using the SuSE installation media. Once you're there, run
Code:
grub-install /dev/hda
(assuming you have an IDE drive, and want grub installed to your MBR).

As long as you don't change Windows's active partition your old grub configuration should work.

This is true. But do note that some of the drivers for WindowsXP_64 are not 64-bit. you may have some problems w/ that

I put Grub onto a CD-R a while ago, it saves a vast amount of hassle when the MBR is screwed up. There's a howto for it on the GNU Grub pages. . .

The SUSE installation CD has a repair function that will automatically restore the bootloader. See http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2003/1...em-Repair.html for details.
