Have you tried searching with Google? It looks like you're not the only one with this issue. It looks like it's pretty dependent your hardware, free disk space, size of RAM available, processors, etc. Too much stuff on Google for me to bother delving deeper. Sorry but good luck with that!

FWIW I did that upgrade on this laptop a few months ago - normal upgrade as I remember; nothing unusual. 3 or 4 reboots, less than an hour maybe.

Gen8 i7 SSD, ...

If you're worried about the drive, boot a (linux) liveUSB and run SMART against it. Or use your Windoze utilities to do likewise if more comfortable.

Looks like Windows support request to me.

The only Windows upgrade I am aware of is the upgrade to Linux.

You are asking if it is normal for Windows to take so long for an upgrade, but you insist you are not asking about Windows. Man, ain't this something. I'm glad I happened to see this thread. Now every time I'm in a bad mood I can think of this thread and feel better instantly.

You know how it is, when you're the computer geek in your household, the family comes to you to fix their windows OS.
With post #1 and this one, you've provided zero actionable information.

If you're the computer geek, how do you diagnose a bad hard drive?

Mechanical means nothing, all drives are mechanisms.

Using Linux live boot you also can diagnose system hardware.

We can't really guess as to your knowledge level based on the info you've provided.

Perhaps cite what you've tried or checked, or looked up on the make and model.
