a 100-megaton thermonuclear weapon.

so what?
don't get me wrong, that's a horrible weapon, but don't all the big one's still have them? so america is reporting about russia having it - a case of pointing the finger to divert attention away from oneself? a comparison to similar US american devices should be part of the report. |
The 50 megaton thermonuclear Tsar Bomba is still listed as the most powerful weapon ever detonated even though it was done back in 1961. So it seems a fair question to wonder "Why now?". Ondoho I truly don't think this is any sort of attempt at diversion... to what gain? The US if anything likes to flaunt it's arsenal. The US nuclear arsenal is well known and often picketed and plans for how to reduce the arsenal are openly discussed. Are there anti-nuke pickets or similar activities in Russia?

The warhead load is optional and not important.
The intercontinental sonar will still pick it up and give time for it to be disrupted. Single weapons are unlikely to get through; it needs multiple attacks to overwhelm the defenses. |
I have heard it said that the next great war starts when the veterans of the last one have all passed away.
I do not find that comforting thought. |

That really sounds like a good plan!!

Since time immemorial, the rich elite sent the young men of the working classes/proletariat to fight and die on their behalf - to perpetuate their continued hegemony and existence, of sybaritic excess and to ensure that the wealth, prosperity and comfort of the few was maintained at the expense and suffering of the many - both at home and abroad. The biggest challenge was in convincing them to do so and in convincing them that "you too..." can achieve the same [but only a select few - e.g. 0.0001%]. It's a proven strategy.
Today it continues. It's evolved, a little, but it's still very much the same old thing. Nation State A only has to ensure that their uneducated masses fear/hate Nation State B - and vice versa. The bogeyman changes/rotates with time, for "the west" Russia is the safe bet, Islamic terror is also reliable, Russia + Islamic terror an even safer one. What we still fail to see, is that all of our problems are created (manufactured) at home. Our real 'enemies' are those who push for greater intolerance and hatred under a moralistic and hypocritical banner of supposed "freedom" and "tolerance". |
