I am sure if Jeremy gets hit by a bus, someone that is setup as his beneficiary would attain the site, though I would happily take over if I was asked though if something happened to Jeremy. But hopefully that won't ever happen, cause I think Jeremy runs the site better than anyone else could ever run it.

If you have 1000 posts and are not a mod you now have the option of Guru or LQ Addict as a User Title. Thanks isajera.

Well, I don't answer alot of questions anymore because i'm losing any smarts I once may have had. I don't want to leave pointless posts (even though I do ) and if I feel I can't be helpful I seem to pass up alot of opportunities. May be silly or not, but i'm just wierd like dat...I'm not saying you or anyone else does, don't take it the wrong way please!! I'm just not as knowledgable as the rest of yuh'all is what i'm sayin'...I don't wanna be "the guy everyone talks about"... LOL

I know what you mean. Sometimes I have a reply box open, half a paragraph up, and I realize that I don't actually know the answer. I know I could figure it out if I could get to a RedHat machine, but all my public accounts are on Debian and Slack machines...

must, get, ssh, tunnel, to work... blerghhh

Then there are the reallllllly bored days at work, where even the boss is slacking off, and I keep reloading the "new threads" page over and over again and all that's there is goop about Xine and Wine and Samba and Blackbox and fixing RPM databases and USB cable modems and Grub and dual-booting with XP and how to replace the head gasket on a '72 Dodge Charger and oodles of stuff that I either haven't gotten around to learning, have working but can't fathom why it functions, or couldn't give two short toots about.

Yesterday I found myself so drooling that in order to reply to a guys problems with USB wireless kit, I downloaded and compiled the drivers on my server to figure out how the junk worked.

Then there's the social thread addiction, 10% of posts these days and gaining: starts with the snow, ends up on instruments, punk rock and cars.

Cheers,

Finegan

... isn't that already kewpie?

i was grousing through a lot of my old posts last nite... a shockingly large number of them were actually on topic. it's weird... i remember the vast majority of my posts being aimless sarcasm and pointless satire... i don't seem to remember ever actually helping anyone... all i do nowadays is meander wherever the posts in general go, and try to keep kewp from alienating the newbies too badly in my forum

I feel the same. I usually some 'half' answer that implies that i've got an idea but in actuality don't have a clue. LOL
I must have 30 posts alone in these two threads recently. Honestly, I think I'm addicted to LQ for the social aspect myself and every once in a while I say something that actually helps someone. But that's ok, every board needs a few social butterflies to keep things off track....

Isajera, you just plain know things like acid, Aussie, Fin (yes) and tricky...I'm not surprised how often you help people. One day i'll pick up on all this knowledge and actually use it....Me, ask me how to edit the Windows reg., install hardware or fix it, then I may be able to shed some light on things...Until then...Godspeed and may the schwartz be with you!

I find myself doing that as well. I'll start to reply, know like half the answer then forget.. or unsure how to totally fix the problem. Most of the time I either look for the answer cause its already out there on the web somewhere or its already been dun asked here at LQ.

Yeah I think my real problem comes from the fact that so many of these guys need a line by line reply to what the problem is (interspersed with witty commentary ), and that I can only tell someone for instance, that thier pcmcia card info is stored in a file called stab somewhere in /var somewhere.

I'm really happy to get this ssh tunnel to my home LAN working so I'll be able to poke around on boxes running SuSe, Mandy and RedHat and actually be able to give an informed answer to these poor guys.

However, I really wish people would stop buying all of this prism2 wireless gear and just drop the extra $20 for the uber-supported Lucent stuff... arghhh Linksys, blerg!

Solidarity,

Finegan

Has anybody noticed how he's got more posts than CragStar and is catching up with me? That just sucks.

Hmm, I'm # 1934...never noticed that before, and not particularly phased by it either. This'll be my 773rd post...not long now before I too can claim addict status. Oh the prestige .

When I post and realise that I know jack about the subject, I usually just finish the post with:

Anyone care to expand?

I am kinda like Thymox... if I know something useful, then I will help someone. But most of the time I am a social butterfly.

The people on this forum are great, and are fun to to talk to. To bad we all live so far from each other. I bet we would be a riot together.

toodles...
