I'll have to agree that there were some quality social services in the USSR at one time that fell under as the union fell apart. Not sure I'd have ever considered Russia to be the stronghold of freedom and liberty.

You shouldn't speak so poorly of Obama either.

who's talking about the ussr!

i'll grant you that this particular news is only part of many similar incidents.
but it is a particularly big one as civil rights go.
the government is clearly trying to squash people who point out its corruption - “In many countries the government would have resigned over this.”

but we cannot dismiss it. russia is (still) considered a democratic country, it is still the largest in the world and pretty high up in the statistics in all other aspects, too.
it is part of europe and shares a very long border with the eu.

anybody who is following russia's development with even half an eye must agree that things are getting worse there recently.
