Forgive my ignorance, but since this seems to be based on what Ubuntu USE to be based (Gnome2), does it look and work in a similar manner. Not very technical, because I'm in the process of learning Linux. I absolutely love Ubuntu 10.10. It works like a dream on my Dell Inspiron, but when I put Ubuntu 11.10 on here, it was a mess. I agree that Gnome3 sux.

You say this is a rolling version of Linux. Are you saying that, unlike Ubuntu has done, we won't have to "upgrade" to newer versions of Fubuntu? You seem to imply that. I'm downloading it now, and hope to give it a try soon.

The similarities of Ubuntu and Fuduntu is that they take a base major distro and make it a little easier to operate with focus on desktop use. Ubuntu is using Debian as a base disto. Fuduntu used fedora core in the past but as i understand they've now separated from Fedora and it is a distro in it's own right. Under the hood it is still very close to Fedora.
There are pros and cons to a rolling distro. Yes, in theory, rolling release means no need to reinstall every 6 months. Downside is rolling distros are more likely to break and the user is expected to have some knowledge and troubleshooting skills to fix problems as they appear. Arch linux and Gentoo are other examples of rolling distros.

We emphasize stability over newness. Rarely do users experience system wide breakage from us because we don't move packages into our Stable branch until much later in the life-cycle than most other rolling release distributions.

And you are correct, we are now an independent distribution. While packages from Fedora may work, if you go and enable the Fedora repositories on a Fuduntu install, you will end up with a broken system.
