Where can i get a Fedora Boot Disk

How do you make a boot disk for Fedora Core 1? I have formatted my hard drive. I can install linux without Windows, right?

Can you boot off the CD? The install disc should be bootable if your BIOS supports it (almost all do).

Otherwise, something like this should allow you to boot from the cd through a floppy.

It won't let me boot from a cd. But when i try to make a boot disk from the boot.img file, the floppy disk will only hold 1.38mb and the file is 1.40mb.

To make a boot disk, in Windows, insert the first install CD. Navigate to the \dosutils\rawritewin directory. Start rawwritewin.exe. In the Image file text box, enter the path "X:\images\bootdisk.img". Click Write and when it is done writing the disk, reboot your computer with the floppy inserted and you should be good to go.

I don't see that folder on CD 1

Which archetecture does your copy of FC 1 support (ie i386, x86_64, etc.)?

dannyo1984 06-08-2004 10:27 AM

i have i386

confidential007 06-08-2004 04:20 PM

I pulled out my FC 1 i386 CDs, and the directory structure for CD 1 is (ommitting some directories):
Code:

/
    dosutils/
        autoboot/
        fips15c/
        fips20/
        fipsdocs/
        rawwritewin/
            (rawwritewin.exe)
    Fedora/
        base/
        RPMS/
    images/
        pxeboot/
        (bootdisk.img)
    isolinux/

I included the locations of the files that are imporant for making the boot diskette. If you want to use the command line instead of a GUI, at the command line type X:\dosutils\rawrite and follow the onscreen instreuctions. The image you want to use is located at X:\images\bootdisk.img

try this site http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedor.../msg01957.html
It didnt work for me even though I was sure it would, it was taking to much space. More than 1.4 mb, but maybe you'll have better luck!
